- City Gas Distribution
With new gas discoveries and development of LNG and transmission infrastructure,
India has adequate resources of Natural Gas to meet its domestic demand. Though
priority will be given to Power & Fertilizer plants, the Government of India
(GOI) has planned to allocate a sizable portion of Natural Gas for City Gas Distribution
(CGD) projects. Over the next 10 years, 300 cities are to be connected with gas
with an investment of over Rs.37,000 crore ($8 billion). The idea is to supply
piped natural gas to households, commercial establishments and industries along
with supply of CNG (Compressed Natural Gas) for vehicles.
The Petroleum & Natural Gas Regulatory Board (PNGRB), a regulatory body established
by the GOI, has been mandated to authorize grant of License/Concession for the construction
and operations and maintenance, of CGD projects.
